Dr K. Venema
Research line leader of HEFI 1: Gut Microbiology. Using the sophisticated in vitro models of the gastrointestinal tract (nick-named TIM) we study the effect of probiotics, prebiotics and other food components on the gut microbiota composition and activity. Over the past decades the gut microbiota has been shown to eb involved in numerous diseases and disorders. The validated in vitro models allow for mechanistic research into the health benefits of (functional) food components.
