Federica Montanaro
Federica graduated cum laude in 2021 in criminal law at the University of Pisa. She obtained a Master’s in Law at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, with a thesis about restorative justice for corporate crime. She did an internship at the International Affairs Commission of the Italian Parliament during her studies.
She is a PhD in Law candidate at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. Her research interests focus on environmental criminal law, corporate responsibility, and criminalization politics. She did a visiting research period at Instituto de derecho penal Europeo e Internacional (UCLM) under the supervision of Professor Adam Nieto Martin.
Federica will visit METRO between January and June 2024.
Leonardo Cunha Silva
Leonardo is a PhD candidate in Law at the University of São Paulo (USP/Brazil). His research focuses on the decision-making process for formulating climate goals and the role of procedural instruments in ensuring credibility. He was granted scholarships by Brazilian research agencies CAPES and FAPESP.
He studied law at the Faculty of Law of Vitória and served as a law clerk at the Espírito Santo State Court of Appeal. He holds a master's degree in Law from USP, having written a thesis about the Brazilian National Biofuel Policy (RenovaBio). He has co-authored the book Regulatory Barriers for the Implementation of Brazilian Climate Policies in the AFOLU Sector: Forest Code, ABC Plan, and Renovabio.
Leonardo is visiting METRO between February and June 2024.
Boyoung Park
Boyoung Park is a public official in the Competition authority of the South Korean Government, Fair Trade Commission. During her visit at Maastricht University, she will work on the research topic ‘creating a safe environment for consumers through the establishment of a system to remedy damage caused by unfair behaviour’ .
She will visit METRO between December 2023 and June 2024.
Zilin Huang
Zilin Huang is a Ph.D. candidate in international economic law at the Faculty of Law, Sichuan University, China. As a guest researcher at METRO, he conducts research focusing on the international regulation of industrial subsidies, with a particular emphasis on the emerging legal regulation of cross-border subsidies.
He has been working at METRO under the support of the China Scholarship Council (CSC) since November 2023.
Demetrio Villani
Demetrio Villani is a PhD candidate in Organized Crime Studies at the University of Milan, working on the topic of environmental crime in Lombardy, with particular regard to the study of regulatory tools and possible forms of preventing and combating the phenomenon of arson and illegal waste trafficking.
He graduated in Law in 2020 from the same university. He is a member of the Global Network for Human Rights and the Environment (GNHRE). In 2022 he passed the bar exam, an activity in which he is primarily involved in environmental criminal law.
Demetrio visited METRO between January and March 2024.
