Christopher Docksey

Honorary Director General of the European data protection Supervisor (EDPS)

He has been responsible for the coordination and implementation of policies and activities since 2010. He is a member of the English Bar and a law graduate of the Universities of Cambridge and Virginia. He has taught law at the Universities of Exeter and Washington and at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law. He was the Legal Adviser on data protection to the European Commission from 2001 to 2010. During this period he represented the Commission in the data protection cases before the European Court of Justice and advised on draft legislation and international negotiations on matters such as Safe Harbor, PNR and TFTP. Most recently he represented the EDPS in the Schrems proceedings before the Court.

Christopher Kuner

Professor of law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Brussels, Belgium, and co-director of the Brussels Privacy Hub, a legal research centre at the VUB. He is also an affiliated lecturer at the University of Cambridge, and a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The author of numerous books and articles, Dr. Kuner is editor-in-chief of the law journal International Data Privacy Law published by Oxford University Press. He has participated in the work of numerous international organizations, and has taught courses at the summer session of the Hague Academy of International Law and at the summer school of the Academy of European Law in Florence.

Paul Breitbarth

Paul Breitbarth

Paul Breitbarth a privacy lawyer from the Netherlands. He currently works as Data Protection Lead for Catawiki, the leading online auction marketplace to buy and sell special objects. In addition, Paul works as Senior Visiting Fellow at Maastricht University’s European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity, and serves as Member of the Data Protection Board of the European Patent Office. He is a regular speaker on webinars and at conferences, and co-hosts the Serious Privacy podcast. 

Previously, Paul worked both in the public and private sector in multiple privacy roles, including at TrustArc, Nymity and the Dutch Data Protection Authority. He was an active member of various Article 29 Working Party subgroups, co-authoring opinions on the data protection reform, surveillance, the Privacy Shield and others. In 2015, he organized the International Privacy Conference in Amsterdam. Paul holds a Master of Laws from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Teresa

Teresa Quintel

Teresa Quintel is an Assistant Professor at the Maastricht European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity, which she joined in July 2021.Prior to her appointment, Teresa worked at the University of Luxembourg and Uppsala University as PhD candidate, where she was also engaged in teaching and moot court activities.
Apart from her research and teaching activities, Teresa worked in different projects on EU and Council of Europe level. In the framework of the Council of Europe's Glacy+ project, Teresa participated as external expert in data protection legislation drafting workshops in Nigeria and Namibia and worked on a toolkit for legal practicioners in response to human rights violations in extraordinary circumstances. Teresa further contributed to Impact Assessments on data protection related issues. In addition, she was a key data protection expert for PICUM, at the EJTN, Complianza Sweden and as part of the panel of experts of the Digital Freedom Fund.

Massimo Marelli

Massimo Marelli LL.B. (QMUL), LL.M (Cantab) is the Head of Data Protection Office at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

Before taking this role at the ICRC headquarters in Geneva, Massimo held several positions as a Delegate in the field and legal adviser at the ICRC. Prior to joining the ICRC, Massimo worked as lawyer at the UK Office of Fair Trading, Referendaire at the EU General Court, and as Solicitor in private practice. Massimo is a member of the Brussels Privacy Hub Advisory Board, and with Dr. Christopher Kuner leads the Brussels Privacy Hub/ICRC “Data Protection and Humanitarian Action” working series.

Paul Benedek

Paul Benedek

Paul is an entrepreneur who specialises in cloud privacy and cybersecurity and translates legal requirements into technical privacy and cybersecurity solutions.  All of Paul’s clients are international Software as a Service Providers in specialist areas such as medical devices, biometric identity, marketing, events and omnichannel retail. 

Paul has many years of deep technical experience in secure software, network and data centre design and build in regulated sectors such as banking where compliance with international security standards and data protection are mandatory. Paul has been a part of the cloud revolution and has worked for many cloud service providers as a consultant advising on technical and legal matters relating to the cloud.

Paul is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E), a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM),  a Certified EU and international DPO (University of Maastricht), a Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE), a Cloud Security Alliance Certified (CSA) GDPR Cloud Auditor and is also certified in Cloud Security by the CSA. Paul has a  Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Governance LLM that was obtained at Maastricht University and is a visiting fellow at Maastricht University teaching basic and advanced cybersecurity, cloud audit and risk. 

Paul is also a member of the UK Society for Computers and Law and serves on the cloud committee who specialise in providing technology training for UK solicitors.

Yazan Al-Masri is a renowned Cybersecurity and Privacy advisor, helping organizations develop an effective Information security and Privacy Programs. Yazan is a regular teacher in Maastricht University's Advanced Master in Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Management. He holds a Masters Degree in Information Security and Digital Criminology with 25 years of international level experience in Information Security, Data Privacy, Business Continuity & Risk Management, IT Service Management, IT Infrastructure and Project Management. He has a proven track record of implementing complex cross-functional IT Security strategic initiatives, Network Infrastructure as well as IT service Support/delivery strategies to support corporate mandate.

Leena Kuusniemi

Leena Kuusniemi, Legal Advisor at Leegal Oy and Former Senior Legal Counsel, Rovio Entertainment
Leena supported Rovio’s technology R&D, cloud services, patent initiatives and technology co-operation initiatives, and is responsible for all privacy and regulatory matters globally. Before joining Rovio in 2012, Leena was with Nokia for ten years, mainly supporting Nokia’s device R&D, online services, data security and privacy. Prior to Nokia, she was a legal counsel at Remedy and started her career as an attorney and litigator. Leena has participated into numerous legal working groups and lectured widely in various seminars and universities.

Andreea

Andreea Lisievici

Andreea Lisievici is a privacy lawyer originally from Romania but based in Sweden, and working with EU data protection matters and their effects globally. She has worked as an outside counsel for most of her career, having advised on data protection matters since the very early stages of cloud computing emergence. She switched to leading in-house roles in 2019 - working for Volvo Cars and then Boeing, seeing the data protection compliance world both as a controller and as a processor in some very challenging projects. She is well accustomed to technical areas like online tracking, mobile apps, data analytics, connected devices and internet of things, but also keeps strong roots in the general theory of EU law and the global institutional context in which the European legal order fits.

Mika Lauhde

Mika Lauhde, Head of Technology, Delegation of Cyberspace, ICRC - International Committee of Red Cross

Before operating as Head of Technology, Delegation of Cyberspace, ICRC - International Committee of Red Cross, Mika Lauhde worked for Huawei Technologies as Vice-President Cyber Security & Privacy. Before he was working at 65Security; an expert house in Cyber security services for authorities, Law-enforcement, courts, law firms and companies needing advanced Security services. Prior joining 65Security he worked in SSH Communications Security as VP, Government Relations and Business Development. Engaging governments, industry partners, and product- and service users on important security and privacy issues such as critical infrastructure protection, compliancy, software assurance, risk and identity management. In Nokia Corporation, Mika Lauhde headed Business Security and Continuity, where he was accountable of Government Relations in Cyber Security area, Criminal compliancy and forensic, Nokia wide crisis management as well terminal and manufacturing related security tool manufacturing.
 

Mika has an extensive experience with cyber security related topics and governmental institutions both in Europe and USA.
