Mr Dr Alexander Hoogenboom, MSc (A.)

Alexander Hoogenboom holds a Bachelor of Laws (Maastricht University, cum laude; awarded prize for belonging to the top five students), a Master of Laws (Maastricht University, cum laude) and a Master of Science (London School of Economics, merit). For his master at the LSE, he obtained the Huygens Top Talent scholarship from the Dutch government.

He recently obtained his Doctorate from Maastricht University, funding for which was provided by the Hague Institute for Internationalisation of Law and for which he was awarded the European Law Faculties Association 'Best Thesis' in European law 2016 award.

Alexander is currently employed as scientific coordinator for the Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross-border cooperation and Mobility (ITEM) where he is tasked with the development of the ITEM databank, coordinates grant applications and the ITEM casuistry.
At the Faculty of Law he co-coordinates the course 'EU Competition Law' and coaches the Maastricht European Law Moot Court team.

Alexander has extensive teaching (about 3,5 years full-time equivalent) and research experience with some 25+ publications including articles in the European Law Review, European Journal of Migration and Law, the Maastricht Journal for European and Comparative Law and the European State Aid Law Quarterly.

In addition he has been involved in research projects for the European Commission, CEDEFOP and the European Parliament ranging from topics concerning 'The role of qualifications in governing occupations and professions' to explorative studies concerning the regulation of 'Mail Order Brides'. He was local project manager for the the Netherlands in the MIPEX 2015 update update round and together with dr. Anne-Pieter van der Mei and EIPA researcher for a Learning module on Directive 2004/38.
