Andrea Parziale (A.)
Andrea is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow at Maastricht University, where he is implementing his EU-funded individual fellowship "FullCompensation - Rationalising Full Compensation of Non-Pecuniary Damages to Reconcile Equal Treatment and Personalisation" (Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 101028723).
The project aims to develop guidelines for adjudicators and a model legislative proposal for EU Member States to award non-pecuniary damages in a way that reconciles equal treatment and personalisation. These tools will be developed based on (i) a review of existing judicial and normative aids to quantify non-pecuniary damages and (ii) empirical evidence on how adjudicators cognitively react to such aids, gathered through a laboratory behavioural experiment.
He obtained his PhD in Law at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, Italy) in 2019, with a thesis in English on "Civil Liability and Regulation in the European Market of Unauthorized Uses of Medicines".
During his doctoral program, he conducted research at the Ecole Normale Superieure and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris, France). He also strengthened his research skills in law, health and policy at the World Health Organization's European Office for Investment for Health and Development (Venice, Italy).
His main research interests include:
1. Civil liability, particularly:
- Product liability.
- The empirical-behavioral research on the compensation of non-pecuniary damages.
2. Law and health, particularly:
- EU pharmaceutical regulation and the role of civil liability and competition law in clarifying this regulatory sector's grey areas.
- Data protection law implications of health and genetic data sharing for research.
He deepens and disseminates his research results via scientific publications, presentations at international conferences and advocacy initiatives.
In parallel to his research activity, Andrea collaborated with law firms in Milan and Rome. He is admitted to the practice of law in Italy.
He speaks Italian, English, and French.
