The Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music (MCICM) officially began work on September 1st, 2018. On the same date, Peter Peters, professor at Maastricht University, began his position as director of the centre with a team of two postdocs, two PhD students, one artistic researcher, one research assistant.

Prof. Peter Peters (Prof. on Innovation of Classical Music) was interviewed by Observant (independent university magazine of Maastricht University) on the launch and mission of the Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music (MCICM). 

The 3rd Winter School was hosted by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, and ran from 15-19 January 2018. It was a great opportunity for the ESRs to share their research with their peers and other professionals.

Bart Zwegers defended his PhD dissertation Heritage in Transition: Global and Local Challenges in Germany and the United Kingdom, 1970-2010 on Wednesday 7 February 2018. His supervisors are Prof. dr. Ernst Homburg and Dr. Jo Wachelder.

Public defence by Tim van der Heijden: 'Hybrid Histories: Technologies of Memory and the Cultural Dynamics of Home Movies, 1895–2005' on 18 January 2018. 

In her dissertation Lotte Thissen illustrates that everyone can experience foreignness, irrespective of their origin or background. One of the key conclusions in this study is that we should stop asking people where they are from.  

On January 26th, the UM Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences hosted the Kapuscinski Development Lecture. The lecture ‘Youth in Movement: Waithood, Migration and the Peripheries’ at FASoS was given by Professor Alcinda Honwana, Inter-Regional Adviser on social development policy at the United Nations Department of Social and Economic Affairs and visiting professor of Anthropology and International Development at the Open University in the UK

Professor Leonie Cornips launches a Dialect Web App for the Limburg dialects ‘Eèsjdes’ (the Eijsden dialect) and ‘Mestreechs’ (the Maastricht dialect).
