The Maastricht Debate 2019
On 29 April the leading candidates to take over the position as President of the European Commission will participate in a debate in Maastricht.
Young adults aged between 18 and 29 years are entitled to register for the debate starting March 13th at 13:00. The Maastricht Debate focuses on young adults (18-29 years old), with a special emphasis on first-time voters. The moderators are UM Rector Magnificus Rianne Letschert and Ryan Heath (political editor at Politico). Together with the audience they will be asking questions to the "Spitzenkandidaten" based on the main themes: Digital Europe, Future of Europe, and key issues voiced by young people in Europe. The representatives of the main European political parties are expected to participate in the debate.
Registration is closed. If you're going to the debate, don't forget to bring your passport or other proof of identity.
If you did not manage to register for the event, don't worry. You are very welcome to the public viewing festival on the Vrijthof square in Maastricht, where the debate inside the theatre will be live-streamed. The festival will include stands for European, national and regional parties and organisations, as well as food trucks and live music after the main event, to encourage the “debate after the debate”.
The Maastricht Debate 2019 is organised by the three partners of Maastricht, Working on Europe: UM, The City of Maastricht and the Province of Limburg, as well as The European Youth Forum and The European Journalism Centre. The partners are also in close collaboration with POLITICO to further spread the news and reach a wider audience.
