Appointment Britta Böhler as Professor of Legal Professions & Ethics
As of 1 March 2019, Prof. Britta Böhler has been appointed Professor of Legal Professions & Ethics. The chair is part of the Department of Foundations and Methods of Law. The establishment of this chair is in line with the faculty’s policy to further strengthen the range of skills of our graduates by systematically focusing on the increasingly important ethical aspects of professional practice by gownsmen.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the legal profession; since lawyers make an essential contribution to the functioning of the constitutional state both inside and outside the courtroom. Prof. Böhler's contribution to education will mainly take shape within the Lawyer and Ethos course, which will be offered in both English and Dutch.
Prof. Böhler is a very experienced lawyer (especially in political affairs); she worked as a lawyer in Germany from 1985 to 1991 and in the Netherlands since 1991. From 2012 to 2017, she was Professor by special appointment at the University of Amsterdam, and from 2007 to 2011 she was a member of the Senate.
As from 1 april 2019, she is a member of the College for Human Rights in Utrecht.
