In the province of Limburg, there is a substantial number of major international logistics companies as well as a large number of logistics SMEs and start-ups. This is especially the case in the Venlo region. The logistics sector in the province is therefore of great importance. To maintain a leading position, continuous innovation is needed. That is why Maastricht University and the Province of Limburg are joining forces to further develop the logistics sector in the region and in the Netherlands with innovative supply chain solutions.
On 31 May, Maastricht University, Brightlands and the Limburg Provincial Government opened new and high-end laboratories on Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo. At the same time, two new research centres were launched: the Food Claims Centre Venlo (FCCV) and the Centre for Healthy Eating & Food Innovation (HEFI).
Dr Alie de Boer – a food scientist at University College Venlo, a satellite campus of Maastricht University – recently published an article in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition. Based on a comprehensive literature study, she revealed the importance of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E in managing chronic inflammatory lung diseases, such as COPD and autoimmune sarcoidosis.
