Bachelor’s programmes Tax Law and European Law School rank first in Elsevier Best Study Programmes 2017
The bachelor’s programmes in Tax Law and European Law School are in first place again in the Elsevier Best Study Programmes survey which was published last Friday. In this edition, the magazine presents its annual investigation into the best study programmes in the Netherlands.
Bachelor’s programmes
The Elsevier research results show that the bachelor’s programme in Tax Law is a true leader in its category. With 74% (very) satisfied students, the programme scores more than 10% higher than the national average (63%). Students of this programme find that, in particular, the education, outline of the programme and examination are very well organised. No less than 93% of the students would recommend this programme to their friends and family. The European Law School students in Maastricht and Nijmegen are satisfied in general. However, in Maastricht, students value the outline of the programme (75%) and the education (63%) more than the students in Nijmegen which places the Maastricht bachelor programme in first place. The bachelor programme in Dutch Law rises to a shared third place with Groningen University this year (of 10 compared programmes). With a total score of 66%, this programme scores significantly higher than the national average of 62%. Moreover, the programme scores above average on the themes education (63%), outline of the programme (78%) and examination (74%). Compared to Groningen University, students of the Maastricht programme highly value the outline of the programme and the examination. Students in Groningen appreciate the facilities there.
Master’s programmes
For only two of our master’s programmes a national comparison was made. The master in Dutch Law shares its second place with Groningen University (of 4 compared programmes) and scores very well on the themes tutors (72%) and outline of the programme (70%). The master programme in Tax Law is in sixth place but is valued for the outline of the programme and its tutors. No less than 85% would recommend this programme to their friends and family. No national comparison was made for the rest of our master’s programmes. In general, the student judgements show that one is satisfied with their programme. Many students would recommend their study programme to their friends and family. Where the master’s programme Law & Labour (Recht & Arbeid) is concerned, even 100% would recommend it!
International classroom
Maastricht University is the most international university in the Netherlands and works hard to offer its students a true “international classroom”. The number of international students in our English taught programmes is very high. The results of the Elsevier Best Studies show this with a percentage of foreign students of 79% in the bachelor programme European Law School. Andin the master’s programme Globalisation and Law and European Law School this percentage is even higher, resp. 84% and 90%.
The outcome of the Elsevier Best Study Programmes is based on this year’s results of the National Student Inquiry (NSE) many students so enthusiastically participated in.
