Course

Dutch (language course)

If you study or work at Maastricht University or elsewhere in the region, you may want to learn Dutch for social reasons, or your boss may require it of you as a working language. This means you will need a level of Dutch that lets you communicate confidently and reasonably accurately. Our communicative approach helps you interact with relative ease and comfort in your everyday social and work interactions.

The focus is on speaking, listening and reading: you learn to get information over the phone and face-to-face, fill out forms, maintain contacts and improve your understanding of Dutch society and culture. Conversation topics and vocabulary are work-relevant and organisation-specific as far as possible.

Do you prefer face-to-face language education in smaller groups to blended learning? In that case this course is the right choice!

This course is divided into 8 modules, all of which focus on speaking, listening and reading skills, with some attention also paid to writing. By the end of module 1 you will be able to carry out everyday tasks in basic Dutch. Module 2 and 3 are already advanced levels. After module 5 and 6, you are advanced enough to take, if you like, the National Exam in Dutch as a Second Language, programme II. You also can choose to continue Dutch by participating in NLC1- (module 7) and NLC1 (module 8). In these modules you will improve your speaking, reading, listening and writing skills on an academic level.

Language of instruction: Dutch. Limited instruction in English as necessary. Recommended language skills English CEF level B1.
