Ann Vanstraelen appointed as KNAW member

Ann Vanstraelen (professor of accounting and assurance services) was named today as a new member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).  Together with 17 others, she may join the 600 existing members from various scientific disciplines. This is the 20th time a scientist from Maastricht University has been appointed as a KNAW member.

According to the KNAW, Vanstraelen is one of the leading researchers and an important innovator in auditing and accountancy. This is a field that in recent decades has developed into a thriving international research area, meeting the increasing need for reliable data and control in the business and public sectors. Vanstraelen has researched financial reporting and governance issues, as well as the reliability of sustainability reporting, opening up an entirely new area of research.
