Honours programmes

The Faculty of Law offers its most talented and motivated students a number of possibilities to gain more in-depth knowledge by completing their study programme with an additional honours programme. The faculty offers honours programmes for both bachelor and master students.

All programmes have a selection procedure based on grades obtained, motivation and scientific interest. Moreover, the advanced master IPKM offer a series of masterclasses for their excellent (master) students.

Bachelor Honours Programme

The Faculty of Law offers an honours programme to students who demonstrate the potential to excel in their studies. The honours programme provides its students with an open and supportive learning environment in which they work closely with members of the academic staff to develop their personal leadership, professional and academic skills.

The Maastricht Research Based Learning Programme (MaRBLe)

The Maastricht Research Based Learning (MaRBLe) programme offers selected students the possibility to participate in research-based learning. The aim is to learn about conducting research and acquire new substantive knowledge by actually doing research.

Honours programmes and tracks for master's students


Masters Honours Research Track

The Faculty of Law offers its ambitious Master’s students a supplementary Master’s Honours Research Track, which takes place from January to June every year. This programme, which is embedded in the Maastricht Graduate School of Law, allows selected Master’s students to learn more about conducting academic research, in addition to their regular studies. The Research Track enables students to acquire a profound basis in research methodology and to apply this knowledge in their master’s thesis on a topic of their choice. Through the Honours Research Track Programme, students prepare themselves for a future PhD or academic career. The additional study load is 8-10 hours per week (15 ECTS, in additional to the 60 ECTS for the regular Master’s programme).

PREMIUM

PREMIUM is Maastricht University’s exclusive Honours programme for high-performing, motivated master’s students. Once selected, students are grouped together in interdisciplinary teams and given an assignment to complete for a client from the (local) business or government sector under the guidance of a project mentor. Alongside their project, students receive individual coaching focused on personal competence development. Lastly, they attend several workshops to help cultivate valuable skills and knowledge to prepare them for the job market.

Every year, the Institute for Globalisation and International Regulation organises a special programme for motivated and talented students of the advanced master's programme Intellectual Property Law and Knowledge Management (IPKM) LLM & MSc. This is a variation on the university's PREMIUM programme.
