Chamaipat Suphawattanabodee (Thailand), Healthcare Policy, Innovation and Management
This programme suits my ambition, which is to innovate the healthcare systems in Thailand

Choosing a master’s programme is about finding your personal goals and ambitions. At Maastricht University (UM), we want to help you find those goals and achieve them. That’s what we call the MasterChallenge.

Chamaipat is from Thailand and chose to come to Maastricht for the master’s programme in Healthcare Policy, Innovation and Management. “I have a bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Science and had worked for five years for an international pharmaceutical company in Thailand when I realised that the lack of medicines called for an innovation of the healthcare systems.

I started looking for suitable master’s programmes and was attracted to this programme because of its unique combination of policy, innovation and management aspects. I was over the moon with joy when I was awarded a scholarship and could fulfil my dream of coming to Maastricht. After Bangkok, a city of 10 million people, this was quite a change in many ways! I was a little bit afraid of a language barrier, since English is not my mother tongue, but there is a genuine international atmosphere here and everyone is very open-minded. My three-week pre-academic course also helped me understand the culture a bit better. I really feel at home here now.

So far, I feel privileged to be able to study here. The PBL method is fascinating and totally different from education in Thailand which is very traditional. All our teachers are very approachable, which is also very different from what I’m used to.

After this year, I want to go back to Thailand and work as a high-level manager in the healthcare business there. Making a positive contribution to the healthcare systems in Thailand would be a dream come true.”

Chamaipat posts weekly on Facebook about her experiences during the master's programme and her life in Maastricht. She's happy to answer your questions about the programme and about (student) life in Maastricht.

I really think healthcare should be managed on a higher level. Doctors can only function properly if all the rest is taken care of
