4. Follow the admissions procedure
In the previous step, your prior education was deemed to make you eligible for admission to your chosen programme. Now comes the admission and placement procedure. This step differs depending on the type of programme you have registered for.
- Programmes with matching (Studiekeuzecheck (SKC)): you will have to complete a 'Matching' to see whether you and your chosen programme are a good match.
- Fixus programmes with selection by the educational institution: in this procedure your application will be assessed based on a combination of performances and/or charactaristics.
- A selective programme: your application will be assessed based on a number of criteria to determine the compatabillity between your interests and the study programme.
You have applied for a programme with Matching procedure
The aim of Matching is to assess whether you and your chosen programme are a good match. Matching can involve an interview, an online questionnaire or some other activity followed by a recommendation.
Watch the video in the right-hand column to learn more about our matching procedure.
Do the Matching as quickly as possible
The Matching procedure – and the deadline for participation – can differ per programme, so please check the requirements of your programme. It is important to organise Matching as soon as possible. Only once you have completed the Matching procedure we can continue processing your registration.
The consequences of Matching depend on, among other things, the date of your application and the date that you have completed your Matching procedure.
You have applied for a fixus programme with selection by the educational institution
Fixus programmes are programmes with a limit to the number of available places.
The selection procedure of fixus programmes is a combination of performances and/or characteristics with at least one non-cognitive criterion (e.g. motivation or activities
outside of school) and at least one cognitive criterion (e.g. marks or a selection test) are assessed to gain as complete a picture of you as possible. As only a limited number of places are available for these programmes, all applicants for the programme concerned are compared to each other.
The Dutch application system Studielink refers to www.startstuderen.nl and www.studiekeuze123.nl for more detailed explanations of application terms and – procedures. Unfortunately at this point in time, there is no English version of these websites, so please find below a number of terms and their explanations.
Is your application for a fixus programme too late?
Unfortunately the deadline for applying to the 'numerus fixus' programmes of Medicine, Psychology and International Business at the UM for the academic year 2018/19 has passed.
The deadline for application for all ‘numerus fixus’ programmes is 15 January 2018, 23:59 CET. After this date it is no longer possible to apply for such a programme via Studielink.
Demonstrate that you satisfy the admission criteria
First you must demonstrate that your previous education is sufficient to meet the admission requirements. Besides the level of your high school education, there can be additional subject requirements in for example mathematics, physics, etc. Please check the specific requirements via the programme of your choice. The deadline for submitting the necessary documents (diploma and/or transcripts, passport) will also be 15 January 2018, 23:59 CET.
Meet the requirements for the selection procedure
Criteria will differ per programme, but for each fixus programme you will need to submit additional documents, participate in tests or even come to Maastricht for a selection day. Please check the specific requirements under the programme of your choice. Do note that only complete applications will lead to an assessment by the selection committee. Without an assessment, you will not receive a score, it will therefore be impossible to include you in the ranking list of all eligible candidates, you will not get a ranking number and it will then be impossible to get a place for the programme.
The result for the selection procedure will be announced on15 April 2018. You will receive your ranking number and additional information via Studielink and via email.
Additional information about the new procedure
- You can submit two applications for fixus programmes in the Netherlands.For specific information, please check the information from the Dutch government. Please note that you can only attend 1 fixus programme, so if you get a place for both programmes, you will need to choose;
- There is a limit to the number of times you can participate in a selection procedure of a fixus programme. This maximum number differs per programme. See for more information the programme you applied for.
You have applied for a selective programme
For a number of study programmes UM strives to select students with a profound interest in one or more specific topics by a certain level of motivation. A wide range of criteria are used to determine the compatibility between your interests and the study programme.
- previous education
- your CV
- your letter of motivation
- a personal interview
There is no limit to the amount of study programmes with a selective admissions process you can apply to.
You will receive notification from the UM about your admission.
We will notify you on completion of this step. There are two possible outcomes: you are admitted/conditionally admitted, or your registration request has been denied.
You are admitted/conditionally admitted
If you have been admitted/conditionally admitted, go directly to Step 5. Complete your application and pay your tuition fee.
Your application is rejected
If you have not been admitted to your chosen programme, you will receive a letter to this effect. The letter states why you were not admitted to the programme: either you were not selected for the fixus programme or you did not meet the matching requirements.
Would you like more information about why you were not admitted? Please contact the faculty of the programme you applied for.
