Competence instrument for Dutch Universities
In 2004, a new university job classification system called UFO (Universitair Functie Ordenen) was introduced at all universities in the Netherlands.
Subsequently, another four universities took the initiative to develop a competence instrument linked to the job profiles as defined in UFO.The competence instrument may serve as a useful aid for recruitment and selection purposes, for appraisal and assessment interviews, and for personal development plans (persoonlijk ontwikkelingsplan, POP).
During the development of the Digital Feedback Instrument in 2011 competences were described again.
The resulting competence instrument for the Dutch universities comprises 32 generic competences that may be applicable to jobs within the universities. The competence instrument can be found on the VSNU-website.
For each competence the following was drawn up:
- the definition
- possible behavioural indicators
- test questions and tips for development
Finally, some generic competences are described for each university post. Each university/faculty/service centre/department may define these competences in more detail, adding more specific competences.
Information on job profiles, the aim of the post, core activities and result areas can be obtained from University Job Classification.
