Work for third parties
Employees who carry out work for third parties or intend to do so must register this in Employee Self Service . The administrative manager will automatically be notified of the registration by e-mail. If the work does not affect the employee’s performance at Maastricht University (UM) and if there is no conflict with UM’s interests, permission shall usually be granted. You will be notified by email whether permission for the registered work for third parties is granted.
The parties to the collective labour agreement have established a sectoral scheme covering ancillary activities by those employed at Dutch Universities. In addition UM to this scheme UM adopted the Maastricht University implementing regulation on work for third parties.
The Maastricht University implementing regulation on work for third parties is in compliance with the overarching UM Integrity Code of Conduct.
An instruction for registering and granting work for third parties can be found on MyUM.
Additional agreements have been made with the Minister of Education regarding the transparency of the work for third parties of professors. As a result of these agreements, the work for third parties activities of each professor can be found on his or her individual profile page. Each professor is responsible for the timeliness of the information.
The subject of work for third parties activities forms an integral part of the annual performance and development evaluations.
In certain situations the Knowledge Centre for International Staff (KCIS) also has to be informed about the work on third parties. Employees can directly contact KCIS: info-kcis[at]maastrichtuniversity[dot]nl.
This applies to:
- Employees who carry out work on third parties abroad. KCIS checks if these have any influence on your social security
- Employees with a nationality from outside the EU/EEA or Croatian nationality who carry out work on third parties in the Netherlands. KCIS checks if the work permit and/or residence permit allow the employee to carry out this work.
