If your appointment at UM ends you will receive a written confirmation from the unit where you work. This letter will include information on the possibility of applying for benefits. The UWV website provides information on the conditions for unemployment benefits and the level and duration of those benefits. On the website, you will also find the unemployment benefits application form.
Apart from unemployment benefits, you may also be entitled to additional benefits under the BWNU (redundancy pay scheme). Information is available on the VSNU website, where you will also find the required application form.
You will need to apply for any unemployment benefits (WW and BWNU) yourself.
If you do not live in the Netherlands you will need to apply for the unemployment benefits in your country of residence. For further information, please visit the website of the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB), the Bureau for Belgian Affairs and the Bureau for German Affairs .
As long as an individual is receiving unemployment benefits on the basis of a UM employment contract, s/he may continue participating in UM’s collective health insurance.
If an individual is receiving benefits, s/he will need to fulfil a number of obligations. For example, s/he must be actively looking for other work. In the case of termination of a UM employment contract, UM will assist in this matter. Failure to meet the obligations can result in the benefits being reduced or terminated.
The Staff Career Counselling Services (LCM) helps former employees who are receiving unemployment benefits on the basis of a UM employment contract look for a new job. You can find more information under Unemployment candidates.
