Dr Mr Stephan Rammeloo (S.F.G.)

Professional career history

Stephan Rammeloo (1960) is Associate professor in (European) Company Law, Private International Law and Comparative Law at Maastricht University and visiting professor at China European Union Law School (CESL), Beiijng, China. He took his Masters degree at the Katholieke Universiteit (currently Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen) and studied conflict of laws at the Westfälische Wilhelmsuniversität Münster (Federal Republic of Germany). After graduation he was PhD researcher/lecturer at Groningen University and researcher at the T.M.C. Asser Institute of European and International Law in The Hague. He furthermore conducted research at the Max Planck Institut für Ausländisches und Internationales Privat- und Wirtschaftsrecht in Hamburg, Germany (PhD thesis, defended at Groningen University Netherlands: ‘Das neue EG-Vertragskollisionsrecht. Die Artt. 4, 5 und 6 des Übereinkommens über das auf vertragliche Schuldverhältnisse anzuwenden¬de Recht vom 19.6.1980. Eine rechtsvergleichende Analyse objektiver Vertragsanknüpfungen, Carl Heymanns Verlag, Köln/Ber¬lin/Bonn/München 1992). Between 2005 and 2010 he took the position of lecturer of Private International Law in Grotius Academie Netherlands (post-graduate curriculum for lawyers). As a member of the Ius Commune research school and together with fellow researchers from various EU Member States he is involved in cross-border research on EU Commission’s Company Law Actions Plans (e.g. The Proposed SPE Regulation and Beyond – Complementary Functions of Private International Law, in: The European Private Company - Societas Privata Europaea (SPE), Heribert Hirte/Christoph Teichmann (editors), de Gruyter, Berlin, 2013). He is the author of inter alia ‘Corporations in Private Internatio¬nal Law. A European Perspecti¬ve’, OUP Oxford (etc.), 2001. Research conduct inter alia involves being pre-advisor for the Dutch Association of Commercial Law (2012, Vereeniging Handelsrecht) as well as national reporter for the Académie Internationale de Droit Comparé (2014). He is further charged with law journal reviewing for the European Company Law (Kluwer Taxation Int. Law Journal) and taking part in in EU Young Scholarship Selection Programs (e.g. Kosovo), as well as in international lecture programmes and Summer Law school programs on European Company Law and Private International Law (e.g. Warsaw (Poland), Chisinau (Moldova), Istanbul, (Turkey), Belgrade (Serbia), India (Rajesthan, Bangalore and Pune).
