Prof Dr Ruud Vergoossen, RA (R.G.A.)

Expertise

prof.dr. R.G.A. (Ruud) Vergoossen RA is full professor of International Financial Accounting at the School of Business and Economics of Maastricht University. He is also full professor of Financial Accounting at Nyenrode Business Universiteit and he is partner and head of the department of professional practice at BDO.

In the past Ruud Vergoossen was technical director at Ernst & Young and Royal NIVRA (the Dutch professional accountancy body). He also was employed with Dijker & Doornbos (a predecessor of PWC) and the Vrije Unversiteit in Amsterdam. In 1998-2001 Ruud was a member of the Dutch delegation in the Board of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC), the predecessor of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). At Maastricht University he was director of the postgraduate accountancy program in 2005 and 2006.

Vergoossen graduated in economics at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and finalized his postgraduate accountancy education at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. He got his PhD at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam with the thesis titled “Accounting Changes and the Use of Financial Statements: A Study among Investment Analysts”.

Professor Vergoossen has published numerous articles in the leading professional journals in the Netherlands and in international journals like Accounting, Organizations and Society, Accounting and Business Research, the International Journal of Accounting, the European Accounting Review, and Accounting in Europe.

Ruud is a core editor of the Maandblad voor Accountancy en Bedrijfseconomie and he has a long standing within Royal NIVRA as chairman or member of committees, task forces and working parties.
