Simone Gavazzi (S.)

Simone Gavazzi is a teaching assistant in the Philosophy Department at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS).

In 2019 Simone obtained his BA Degree in Arts and Culture at Maastricht University with the Major in Political Culture. Particularly, Simone focused on the concept of democracy and the theories of global justice. He applied the philosophical debate to Agbogbloshie, one of the biggest and most polluted e-waste dumping sites in the world. The thesis: Agbogbloshie: The Gates of Hell: An Assessment of the Basel Convention in Ensuring Global Justice in Agbogbloshie from a Cosmopolitan and Cosmopolitan Perspective was part of the Maastricht Research Based Excellence Programme (MaRBLe).

In 2020 he completed his MA at the European Master of Human Rights and Democratisation, a programme combining both law, economics, and political sciences courses. The master was in Venice (Italy) and Lund (Sweden) at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. His thesis focused on the rise of the so-called surveillance society and its impact on democratic values. Particularly, he investigated the universality of human rights and of the rule of law by exploring the Chinese Social Credit System.

Since August 2020 Simone has joined Maastricht University, at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences as a teaching assistant. Currently, he teaches in the BA of Arts and Culture, in the BA of European Studies, at UCM, and in the Minor Globalisation and Development.
