Niels Philipsen received his doctorate in December 2003 in the field of Law and Economics. From 2004 to 2006 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the NWO-programme "Shifts in Governance" and afterwards as a Senior Researcher in various research projects (including contract research for, inter alia, various ministries, European Commission, OECD, insurers, and professional organizations).
Niels Philipsen is a Resident Fellow of M-EPLI (Maastricht European Private Law Institute) and is Vice-Director of METRO (Maastricht European Institute for Transnational Legal Research).
He is also Professor of Shifts in Private and Public Regulation at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Niels Philipsen is actively involved as a researcher in many projects. He also co-ordinates several projects for the European Commission and OECD.
