Art Worlds. Exploring current practices and debates in art and literature
Volledige vakbeschrijvingThis module studies ‘art worlds’ in their relation to other societal and epistemological practices. The central theme of the module is the unprecedented hybridization and technologization of both artistic production and consumption. How do these developments reconfigure the modern dichotomy of autonomy and instrumentalism of the arts, and the idea that art as a societal domain can be clearly separated from science and politics? What are the consequences for art and science when artists present their work as a form of doing research resulting in works of art that are presented as knowledge? This module not only explores theoretical approaches to these questions, but also considers the possible roles of scholars of culture in current practices in art and literature, and in topical debates and controversies. It combines skills trainings with tutorial group meetings and master meetings.
