Campus Venlo students win first and third prizes with food innovations

Quinola wins Dutch preliminary round Ecotrophelia

Team Nourish from Maastricht University has won the Dutch final of the student competition Ecotrophelia. With their product Quinola, a plant-based fermented drink with quinoa and canola proteins, they will represent the Netherlands in the European finals in Cologne during Anuga in October.

The diversity and quality of all entries was of a high level. The ideas paid a lot of attention to both sustainability and health.

The winning creation Quinola is a plant-based fermented drink that combines quinoa and canola protein with the flavors of dates and cinnamon. The students call their product an ideal choice for people looking for a high-protein, high-fiber drink without sweeteners or refined sugars.

Second prize was for Team PlantLike (Aeres Hogeschool Almere) with their product "Pulled mushroom": organic bush mushrooms that are grown, marinated and processed into meat or vegetable alternatives. Third prize was for Team BeerBites, also a team from Maastricht University, with their bitterballs made from beer and brewer's grains.
