How do you cook a sugar beet to obtain bioplastics? Ola Wróblewska answered this question in her dissertation, with with she earned the first ever doctorate at the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials.

Kateřina Staňková, assistant professor at the Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering (DKE), co-led her team through a great challenge, resulting in a seed grant to advance their strategy to combat thyroid cancer.

From 10 to 15 September 2018, the cross-border and multidisciplinary Euregio Summer School in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion was organised for the first time. 45 students from higher education institutions and representatives from knowledge institutes in the Euroregion came together with one goal: to develop visions of the future on the theme 'Improving inclusive Mobility in the Digital Age' in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.

Maastricht University officially joined the Einstein Telescope Coalition of Nikhef (Dutch National Institute for Subatomic Physics) and KU Leuven. Prof. dr. Dr Martin Paul, chairman of the Executive Board of Maastricht University, today signed an agreement formalising UM’s participation.

During the second week of September 2018, the first Euregio Summer School will be held. The week will be devoted to working together on the topic of cross-border mobility in the digital age and will take place at a number of locations within the Meuse-Rhine Euregion.
