Master Thesis Research Portfolio
Full course description
The BioBased Materials (BBM) Portfolio exercise is designed for students to reflect on the
interdisciplinary nature of the program. Completion of the portfolio exercise is required to
successfully finalize the master program, it is a side project that should not take more than
7 hours per period. The main goal of this exercise is to stimulate students to iteratively
apply their obtained knowledge on one specific topic in order to generate a broad helicopter
view of the Biobased Materials field. The BBM portfolio involves 1 ECTS, which will be taken
up as part of the Master Thesis, which involves a total of 48 ECTS. The portfolio is graded
with a fail/pass and does therefore not contribute to the final grading of the Master Thesis.
A Reflective Portfolio is a set of writings that summarize the insights and experiences a
student has gained from practical assignments. When you enter the BBM Master
Programme, you take a series of compulsory and elective courses, as well as project period
practices that contribute to developing your knowledge, understanding, and skills in the
field of Biobased Materials. The portfolio exercise gives you the chance to reflect critically
on how some of these courses relate and inform a topic of your choice. A reflective portfolio
is used to assess your engagement with their practical skills, and your ability to use
theoretical knowledge in an applied setting.
Course objectives
At the end of this course you should
- Be able to reflect on a bio-based material’s topic from different angles, i.e. transcending a single discipline or course.
- Be able to effectively communicate in writing the product of the reflection using scientific writing and field-specific terminology of different Biobased Materials disciplines.
