The students learn theories about how to design powerful learning environments on different levels. They acquire knowledge about an effective design process, how to avoid pitfalls in this process and factors influencing this process. They can explore more in depth specific learning environments for example e-learning, blended learning, work based learning or other learning environments. In doing this they have to integrate knowledge from previous units. Important concepts such as transfer of learning, factors influencing implementation and management of change are explored. Different learning environments for students or teachers can be studied or designed. Also the role of the instructional designer is explored. Integrated with the assignments is acquiring knowledge about design-based research.
To acquire competencies to design powerful learning environments, analyze and guide the design process and acquire knowledge about pitfalls in this design process. In this unit students also acquire knowledge and skills about design-based research.
