Italian online intensive coaching

The course is designed for students of all levels of the CEFR. It consists of four modules, in which you combine oral sessions with a coach and independent study to improve your language skills. The online self-study component is supported by effective language training on Babbel.com and Quizlet.com. The focus is on speaking and listening skills.

After completing the fourth module, you’ll be able to communicate well in Italian, whether you are writing, speaking, presenting or debating.

Italian Online courses

Reference levels according to the CEFR:

  • Course 1: A1
  • Course 2: A2 
  • Course 3: B1 
  • Course 4: B2 

Course 1 (Online it-1)

Module 1 is intended for people with no prior knowledge of Italian. Once you have completed this course, you would be able to:

  • greet people
  • present yourself and others
  • ask and give personal information
  • get around in shops and restaurants
  • conduct simple conversations in the past and present tense
  • discuss everyday life activities such as work, study or sport

Course material: Your coach will give you specific study materials and research assignments, use the effective language training of babbel.com.

Certificate A1: Upon completion of the course requirements, you will receive a participation certificate by mail.

Course 2 (Online IT-2)

In this course, you will considerably improve your language skills. You will be able to:

  • talk about your work or study
  • discuss places, situations or holidays
  • describe people’s feelings in the past
  • make comparisons and give descriptions
  • conduct a job interview
  • give advice
  • express preferences
  • detect similarities and differences in opinions
  • give details about future projects
  • discuss the human body, tastes, preferences, colours, forms, sizes and clothes
  • ask about products and make purchases in shops

Course material:

In your independent study time, you will be working in Google Classroom, where you can download extra resources for free. You will need to subscribe at babbel.com. You can choose any subscription you like (the longer the subscription, the cheaper it is). Your coach will give you specific study materials and research assignments, use the effective language training of babbel.com.

Certificate A2: Upon completion of the course requirements, you will receive a participation certificate by mail.

Course 3 (Online IT-3)

Registering for this course is only possible when you have passed the previous course or had an intake with one of our staff members.

You will learn how to:

  • lead a debate;
  • give presentations about a current topic;
  • describe a person;
  • discuss familiar topics;
  • express your feelings and your wishes;
  • read articles out of a newspaper and comment on them;
  • give advise and express your own needs;
  • use different tenses.

Course 4 (Online IT-4)

This course is for people with a fairly high level of Italian. Meaning you are able to make yourself understood in common everyday situations even though you might not have the all the necessary vocabulary. In this module you will improve your ability to debate and present certain topics and you will learn to:

  • express cause;
  • convey and explain your dissatisfaction;

    make complaints,

  • decline offers and express your own needs;

    argue, present and debate;

     

  • hypothesise and speculate;

  • purpose and effect; express wishes and consent;

  • make notes and summaries;
  • discuss topics such as climate, society, politics and culture;
  • make complaints, decline offers and express your own needs.

Registration and intake

You can register to a course by using our registration form. After registering, you will receive a confirmation.

Would you like to meet us for an intake or receive more information? You can email us at languages-intake-IT to make an appointment, free of charge. The appointment will take place at the Maastricht University Language Centre (Sint Servaasklooster 32).

Book an intake well before the course is scheduled to begin. It will be simpler to make the appointment and you will have a greater chance of finding a place in the course of your choice.

Costs per course:

  • UM students and staff: € 295
  • Alumni: € 290
  • All other participants: € 360

Certificate and ECTS

After completing a module, you will receive a certificate and three ECTS credits. To be eligible, you must have a sufficient score in one written exam and three oral ones. To obtain these credits included on your degree certificate, you must submit a request to your Board of Examiners. Whether these credits are granted depends on your faculty.
