English: Cambridge English Language Courses

Would you like to improve your English for work or study purposes? And would you like to obtain an internationally recognised certificate that confirms your proficiency in English? Then you should consider taking one of our Cambridge English Main-suite courses.

These courses focus on improving your speaking, reading, listening and writing skills. You’ll also expand your vocabulary and your knowledge of grammatical structures. Maastricht University's Language Centre offers Cambridge English courses at three different levels:

  • B2 First
  • C1 Advanced
  • C2 Proficiency

Cambridge English qualifications are often required as evidence that your English is good enough for overseas study or employment. They can also be equated to an IELTS score required as a part of the immigration process for a number of countries. Once obtained, a Cambridge language qualification is valid for life.

B2 First

This qualification proves you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or take courses taught in English. You’ll be able to understand the main ideas in a complex text, you can produce clear and detailed prose and you’ll be able to interact with native speakers with a degree of fluency and spontaneity.

Required materials

Objective First Student’s Book with answers (fourth edition). By Annette Capel and Wendy Sharp. Cambridge University Press. ISBN 9781107628304

C1 Advanced

More advanced than B2 First, this certificate demonstrates that you can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning. You can express ideas fluently and can use language flexibly for social, academic and professional purposes.

Required materials

Objective Advanced Student’s Book with answers with CDrom (fourth edition). By Felicity O’Dell and Annie Broadhead. Cambridge University Press. ISBN 9781107657557

C2 Proficiency

C2 Proficiency confirms that your English is exceptional, and resembles the fluency and sophistication of a native speaker. You will be able to study or work in a senior professional or academic environment, for example on a PhD or postgraduate programme.

Objective Proficiency Student’s Book with answers (fourth edition). Annette Capel and Wendy Sharp. Cambridge University Press. ISBN 9781107646377
