Would you like to improve your English for work or study purposes? And would you like to obtain an internationally recognised certificate that confirms your proficiency in English? Then you should consider taking one of our Cambridge English Main-suite courses.
Please note: due to the COVID-19 situation, we will provide this course in an online setting.
The courses focus on improving your speaking, reading, listening and writing skills. You’ll also expand your vocabulary and your knowledge of grammatical structures. Maastricht University's Language Centre offers Cambridge English courses at three different attainment levels:
Cambridge English qualifications are often required as evidence that your English is good enough for overseas study or employment. They can also be equated to an IELTS score required as a part of the immigration process for a number of countries. Once obtained, a Cambridge language qualification is valid for life.
Are you looking for a course to become a more confident and fluent user of English? The 'Effective Communication' course focuses on improving the English that you’ll use in real-life situations. For more information go to ‘Effective Communication’.
This qualification proves you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or take courses taught in English. You’ll be able to understand the main ideas in a complex text, you can produce clear and detailed prose and you’ll be able to interact with native speakers with a degree of fluency and spontaneity.
More advanced than the Cambridge English First, this certificate demonstrates that you can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning. You can express ideas fluently and can use language flexibly for social, academic and professional purposes.
This course provides the same benefits as the other CPE (both in-class and online) offered by the Language Centre in terms of course content and educational aims. In other words, you will receive the equivalent amount of support in terms of tutor-monitored instruction and coaching.
The difference, however, is that this pilot will be delivered using innovative online techniques associated with the flipped classroom. The format will be a blend of synchronous and asynchronous interaction online. The synchronous interaction will occur via a 60-minute, weekly scheduled webinar during which you will meet with the tutor and your classmates in Zoom sessions. During these live sessions, you will receive focused instruction related to the exam and engage in required communication practice.
The asynchronous component of the course comprises the additional hour of instruction. This offers you the flexibility to complete tasks set by the tutor at a time you choose. The tutor will set these tasks and a deadline on a dedicated online platform; you will then complete them either on your own or in small groups. Your work will be monitored and there will be opportunities for constructive feedback from your tutor and peers via a discussion forum. The tutor will also use some of this flexible time to schedule one-to-one and small group speaking practice sessions, in which you will receive individual feedback.
Anyone can sign up for these courses, but they are particularly suitable for:
