Dutch: B@sic Dutch for Students (speaker of other languages than German)

Are you starting your studies at Maastricht University but don’t speak Dutch yet? If so, this course might be for you. In seven weeks, you will learn basic Dutch, with a focus on speaking and listening skills.

Together with 16 other participants, you will follow two-hour group lessons. For each lesson you will need to invest at least four more hours of independent study. This course consists of two modules. The first module is aimed at beginners, while the second module is suitable for people who already speak very basic Dutch.

Requirements

UM students and Hogeschool Zuyd students are welcome to participate in the course. If you have no prior knowledge of Dutch, you can simply register for Module 1 without first having an intake. To follow the second module, you must first successfully complete Module 1 or have a starting level comparable to CEFR level A1-. In the latter case, you will need to have an intake with one of our staff members before registering for Module2.

Registration

You can register for a course module by using our registration form. After registering, you will receive a confirmation stating the name of your teacher and the location of the course.

Please note, registering for Module 2 is only possible when you have finished Module 1.

 

Costs per module

  • first-year UM bachelor’s and master’s students study for free

  • other UM students € 75 per module

  • Hogeschool Zuyd students € 155 per module

     

Certificate and ECTS credits

Each module in this course is equivalent to 1.5 ECTS credits, but not all faculties grant ECTS credits for this course (for more information, contact your faculty directly). To be eligible for a certificate, you must attend at least six of the seven lessons, be present at the final exam and have satisfactory results. 

  • For Module 1, the CEFR attainment level is A1-
  • For Module 2, the CEFR attainment level is A1
