The Maastricht Summer School (MSS) offers courses in a variety of fields and disciplines, mostly at undergraduate/bachelor level, but also relevant to graduate students and professionals.

About us

Experience inspiring courses, a cosmopolitan classroom, a historic city, the sun, the smiles – the Maastricht Summer School.

MSS’s mission is to offer education in the summer period that is complementary to the traditional university curriculum. MSS extends accessibility to the knowledge and expertise of the institute to anyone interested.

Courses are taught in English by our academic staff and ECTS credits can be awarded for most of the courses.

We also offer one Dutch course: Journalistiek en effectief schrijven.

Course materials

Usually course materials are handed out on the first day of the course. In case you need to order materials yourself, we will let you know beforehand.


At Maastricht University, grades from 1-10 are awarded. A grade of 5.5 or higher constitutes a pass – this is necessary for a full credit to be awarded. There is no time limit on the validity of passed courses. Grades of 5.4 or lower constitute a fail; in that case no credit is awarded.

Credits and transcripts

Maastricht Summer School awards academic credits (ECTS) for courses successfully completed during the programme. To include these credits in the transcript of your degree, you need to obtain official approval from the relevant department at your home institution.

Admission and registration


Application procedure

Complete and submit the online application form and send all additional information mentioned below via email or regular mail to the Maastricht Summer School. After having received your application and additional information, the coordinators will contact you as soon as possible to assist you with the registration process and the preparations for your stay in Maastricht.

Additional information required:

  • official transcript
  • proof of English language proficiency (if you are a non-native speaker)
  • one colour passport picture (digital, in jpeg format)
  • scan or a clear copy of your passport (information page with photo and any other pages with stamps, etc.)
