Dutch Public Access to Government Information Act (WOB)
The Dutch Public Access to Government Information Act (Wet openbaarheid van bestuur, WOB) regulates the right of citizens to receive information from the government with regard to administrative matters.
Anyone can submit a request to have information regarding a so-called ‘addministrative matter' made public, for instance, regarding a matter concerning the policy pursued by Maastricht University or the preparation and implementation of that policy. This must be information that Maastricht University already possesses and that has been recorded in documents. Information that is made public by means of a Freedom of Information (FOI) request will become accessible to everyone.
How can you submit an FOI request?
As of 24 March 2020, the option to submit FOI requests electronically (via email and fax) will no longer be available. FOI requests submitted by email or fax will therefore be rejected. Please submit your request in writing and send it to the postal address of Maastricht University:
Attn: Legal Affairs, regarding an FOI request
P.O. Box 616
6200 MD Maastricht
Always include the following in your letter:
- that it is a FOI request
- a detailed description that is as specific as possible of the administrative matter and the related document(s) regarding which you wish to receive information
- how you wish to receive the information
In addition, you must include your name and address in your letter and the letter must be dated and signed.
