CAPHRI School for Public Health and Primary Care
CAPHRI School for Public Health and Primary Care is the largest of the five schools of the Maastricht UMC+ (consisting of the Faculty of Health, Medicine & Life Sciences (FHML) and the Academic Hospital Maastricht (AzM)). Maastricht UMC+ is well known for its expertise in the prevention of diseases, diagnostic and prognostic research in primary care and public health, the promotion of healthy behaviour, and the redesign of health care services. CAPHRI plays a central role in the Maastricht UMC+, being at the forefront of scientific, innovative, applied, ethical and policy-related research in public health and primary care. In December 2010, an external review committee of international experts qualified the School CAPHRI as ‘excellent’ in all aspects.
CAPHRI’s mission is: “CAPHRI provides high quality multidisciplinary research and teaching aimed at the improvement of the individual's quality of life and the population's health through innovation in public health and health care.” CAPHRI offers an outstanding environment, consisting of excellent and dedicated researchers who have proven to excel in their fields. CAPHRI cherishes its young talents and provides optimum support in the form of educational possibilities, personal advice and guidance, different kinds of activities for PhD students, and a personal budget for courses and conference visits. CAPHRI offers several travel grants per year for those with ambitions to do research abroad, and postdoc positions for very talented PhD student who wish to continue their academic career after their graduation. 40% of the PhD students are non-Dutch, which signifies CAPHRI’s international spirit. In total, CAPHRI has 629 staff members, including 50 professors and 305 PhD candidates (142 internal candidates with appointments at CAPHRI, and 163 external candidates). Postdoctoral researchers, lecturers and senior lecturers also all hold posts at CAPHRI.
