Information Point Damage A2 Maastricht launched
Press release 4 April 2011
Law students at Maastricht University offer independent legal advice
In 2011, the advance works for the A2 Maastricht motorway will commence. According to the tight planning, by the end of 2016 the car traffic of the A2 motorway will no longer run through the city centre of Maastricht, but rather under it. The construction of the motorway will involve a highly meticulous, multi-year option in an urban area. The residents of this area may in particular experience hinder or even incur damages. The A2 Buurtenplatform, a platform of involved neighbourhoods, has consistently urged for independent legal advice for civilians. To cater for this need, on 1 April 2011 third-year students of Maastricht University’s Faculty of Law will launch the Juridisch infopunt UM [Legal Information Point MU].
Independent legal advice
Civilians who think they have occurred damages as a result of government or contractor activities can call in the help of the Infopunt Schade A2 Maastricht for questions on the procedures of the Department of Public Works, the municipality of Maastricht or the complaints procedure of Avenue2, a consortium in charge of the implementation of the A2 project. Third-year students of the Law faculty of Maastricht University will provide the public with independent legal advice. Civilians can join up with the law students and evaluate which procedure covers their damages, and whether they stand a chance of receiving recompense. They will also receive advice on legal action they could take. The civilians will have to handle any subsequent legal proceedings themselves.
The students have been specially selected for the Infopunt Schade A2 Maastricht, and have received intensive training to ensure they possess of the required legal knowledge and skills. They will be involved in the project for a one-year period. If the demand for legal information from civilians is high, the Infopunt Schade A2 Maastricht initiative will continue for the duration of the entire A2 project.
