ILL for UM employees

As a member of staff, to get literature from other libraries you must put in the request yourself. You can apply for books and articles from other libraries via the catalogue.

For this purpose you need to open an ILL account. You can fill in this application form via the library website. The ILL account will be created and you will receive your login information via e-mail.

Any costs are charged to the ILL budget as determined by your faculty.

Please consult the library's information desk for a short instruction and assistance with submitting ILL requests via the ILL account.

Submitting requests with your ILL account

  • Via PiCarta (Dutch Union Catalogue NCC and Online Contents OLC) you can request literature that is unavailable in our library collection. You can find PiCarta via this homepage > 'eLibrary' > 'Catalogues'.
  • Select the publication you want to request and click 'full title presentation'.
  • For books click 'borrow' and for articles, click 'photocopy'.

  • Type your 6-digit UM card number and password, preceded by UM (for instance: UM123456) and your password under - respectively - 'name/number' and 'password'.
  • Click on 'send'; the ILL application forms will appear.
  • Complete the forms providing as many details as possible: year, volume number, issue, article, article author and page numbers.
  • Make your choice of delivery, i.e. by post or by e-mail.
Please note 'swift delivery' will incur very substantial costs.
  • To receive a copy per e-mail you will require ample space in your mailbox. Please use your maastrichtuniversity e-mail address for this purpose. The document will be supplied in PDF.
  • When you confirm your request for e-mail delivery, the message 'there are no candidates' may appear on screen. This means that no library is able to provide an electronic copy of the required item. If you proceed by clicking on 'post', the request will be processed for postal delivery.
  • Confirm your request by typing your password again and click on the 'send' button.
  • A message will appear on screen stating that your request has been made and has been given an application number. The costs will be charged to your account automatically.
  • Clicking the button 'My PiCarta' enables you to view your own details, such as your address, balance and requests, and to change your password.
