Cooperation between libraries in Limburg: IHOL

For many years now Maastricht University Library has cooperated with the libraries of universities of professional education in Limburg and the Maastricht City Library. This cooperation takes place under the collaborative agreement 'IHOL: Infrastructuur Hoger Onderwijs Limburg' (Infrastructure Higher Education Limburg).

IHOL has developed a joint regional catalogue which can be consulted in all participating libraries. Staff and students of these institutes may borrow books from each other’s libraries.

Information on borrowing

The maximum number of books that may be borrowed at the same time on the IHOL pass is 4.

Please note: For members of the City Library holds that you can borrow up to 14 materials for a period of 3 weeks (4 for each material such as 4 books, 4 CDs, 4 DVDs). The loan period may vary for each library.

Proof of identity

Students can obtain a free annual subscription by showing a valid student card / proof of registration.

Staff members at the institutes should obtain a written declaration at their own library, which will provide proof of identity at the other libraries.

Both students and staff need to obtain an IHOL pass from their own library before visiting any of the other libraries.

This subscription method applies to all participating libraries, with the exception of the City Library.
Members of the City Library can obtain an IHOL pass at the City Library if they wish to borrow books from the Maastricht University Library or the library of a university of professional education. In addition, they need to produce a recent print-out of the City Library’s borrowers’ administration.

IHOL borrowers and the City Library

An IHOL pass gives access to the entire collection of the City Library. For CDs and DVDs must be paid per item. In addition to the proofs of identity mentioned above, the City Library requires proof of address at the time of registration.
