Law collection
The Maastricht University Library has been accumulating resources for its law collection since 1980. Housed in the Inner City Library, the collection consists of two parts:
- an education collection in the Law Learning and Resource Centre
- a collection primarily related to the law faculty’s research and master’s programmes (list of acquisitions).
Consisting of curriculum-related books and other resources (with several copies of each title), the Learning and Resource Centre collection is not for loan.
The research collection consists of books that are for loan, and journals as well as reference and bibliographical works that you can only use in the library.
Part of the collection is available in electronic form (eLibrary). This means you can consult it from anywhere with an internet connection.
Less current literature (old editions of books, journal issues etc.) is available in the closed stacks and can be requested at the document supply desk.
Almost all Dutch law works from 1972 onwards are available; likewise, we aim to offer a complete range of law dictionaries and bibliographies.
For international law, our focus has long been on law literature from the US and major EU countries.
The documentation system for parliamentary documents takes a special place in the library collection Wetsets. ‘Wetsets’ (law sets) are dossiers clustering all official documents relating to a particular act (whether or not complete) according to dossier number. These cover the period 1980 to 2001.
The Jesuit collection offers historical law sources and old Dutch books from the 16th to the 19th centuries, as well as precious works in the canonical and Roman scholarly traditions. Go directly to the Jesuit collection homepage.
