Humanities & Sciences collection

The Maastricht University Library has been accumulating resources for its knowledge engineering collection since 1983. As a field of study and research, knowledge engineering combines application-oriented mathematics (decision theory, systems theory and statistics) with application-oriented computer science (artificial intelligence and expert systems). Housed in the Inner City Library, the collection mainly includes literature for the Knowledge Engineering research and master’s programmes.

The research collection consists of books that are for loan, and journals as well as reference and bibliographical works that you can only use in the library. Part of the collection is available in electronic form (eLibrary). Less current literature (old editions of books, journal issues etc.) is available in the closed stacks and can be requested at the information desk.

The collection reflects research clustered around two themes (operations research and artificial intelligence), but also includes many books on mathematics and computer science originally acquired for research and education at other Maastricht University faculties (e.g. the Maastricht University School of Business & Economics).
