Health, Medicine & Life Sciences collection
The Maastricht University Library has been accumulating resources
- since 1974 in the fields of
- medical education and research
- patient care
- preclinical disciplines
- related social sciences.
- since 1980 in the field of health sciences education and research.
Housed in the Randwyck Library, this Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) collection consists of two parts:
- an education collection in the learning and resource centre
- a collection mainly for the research and master’s programmes of the Faculty of Health, Medicine & Life Sciences (FHML) (acquisitions).
The learning and resource centre collection is related to the FHML curricula and contains books and other media; various copies are available per title. This collection is not for loan and hence always available for students.
The library collection in the fields of medicine and health sciences is geared towards patient care and the research themes of the faculty’s research institutes: public health and care, cardiovascular diseases, nutrition, experimental psychopathology, growth and differentiation, and brain and behaviour. It currently includes around 250,000 book titles, with around 1,000 new ones added each year. The books in this collection are for loan.
Apart from the book collection, the library also has an extensive collection of scientific journals and information files. The current journal collection includes over 5,000 journals in the health and life sciences. Almost all recent volumes are electronically accessible. The library provides several information files and bibliographies as search options.
Less current literature (old book editions, journal volumes, etc.) is available in the closed stacks and can be requested at the document supply desk.
