How to obtain a UM card?
If you are not an employee or a student of Maastricht University (UM) or the University of Midwifery Education & Studies, if you are not connected with the university hospital Maastricht, but do wish to make use of the Maastricht University Library, then you may apply for a UM card at the information desk. You need to show a valid identity card.
This desk is located on the ground floor of the Inner City Library and at level 1 in the Randwyck Library. Opening hours information desk:
- Monday to Friday 8.30 - 17.00
- Saturday (only Inner City Library): 11.00 - 14.00.
Statement
When you apply for a UM card, we ask you to sign a statement that says that you agree to the conditions of private use (this statement is not applicable for owners of a 'business' pass; see below for information on the business pass).
Types of memberships
The library has two types of memberships for third parties: paid or free annual memberships:
- Paid annual membership:

If you wish to use the library for private purposes, you may apply for a UM card at €36.50 per year - 'Business'
For business users (individuals from institutions or companies), the library has created the Business Card. These cards cost €112.50 per year.

- Dutch universities and universities in the Euregion
Staff and students of Dutch universities and the universities of Aachen, Liège, Antwerp and Hasselt receive a UM card free of charge at the information desk of the library if they can prove to be associated with these universities. - IHOL
Students and staff of IHOL establishments can receive a UM card free of charge if they can show their student ID or a written confirmation of their employment and an IHOL pass.
Members of the Municipal Library receive a UM card if they can show a recent proof of enrolment and an IHOL pass.

- Library reference card:
For €12.50, users may obtain a library reference card, which is valid for 4 weeks.
A library reference card can be used to peruse books and journals, but provides no borrowing facilities.
