eLibrary access from off-campus
The library homepage provides not only information on the library but also access to the electronic library (eLibrary). For various reasons, the information (content) is protected against unauthorised use. In some cases, the reason is that the information is solely meant for a particular target group, but in most cases it is because it is legally prohibited to provide free access to such information.
Data protection is achieved at two levels:
* Name and password (Windows NT)
* IP address
Remote access to the library's protected content can be achieved in three different ways:
- Student Desktop Anywhere
Student Desktop Anywhere provides all Maastricht University students – outside the library – with access to the desktop with applications that the library has created for them.
From this desktop, students have access to all facilities that they are used to from the computers in the library. So, in addition to the electronic library, they can use the regular and faculty-specific applications in the library from home or anywhere in the world. UM students hardly need to install any software on their own computers. By making Student Desktop Anywhere available to all students, the library wants to relieve the strain on its in-house computer facilities.
Log on to www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/anywhere to gain access to the server-based computing environment created for you by the library.

Questions?
If you cannot get access to the electronic library, in spite of the information provided in the user guide, please contact 'Ask your librarian', the library's digital information desk. - UB-EZ proxy service
To access eLibrary from outside the Maastricht University campus (i.e. outside the UM/azM IP range), you may use your 'maastrichtuniversity' account to log in via the UB-EZ proxy service. The login window will open automatically.
If you do not have a 'maastrichtuniversity' account, you may use GUEST access. The following applies to GUEST access:
- within the campus IP range: access to all databases and e-journals;
- outside the campus: only databases and e-journals that are provided free of charge by their publishers.
Questions?
If you cannot get access to the electronic library, in spite of the information provided above, please contact 'Ask your librarian', the library's digital information desk. - VPN access
Anyone who has a UNIMAAS account, may access the Maastricht University's network - and hence also the library - using Virtual Private Network (VPN). A VPN can be regarded as a tunnel towards MAASnet. After setting up a VPN connection, your PC communicates exclusively with the VPN server; this server then handles all network traffic for the PC, as if this PC was physically located inside the university.
