Culture & Social Sciences collection
The Maastricht University Library has been collecting resources in the areas of culture and social sciences since 1986. The collection is housed in the Inner City Library and contains two parts:
- an education collection in the learning and resource centre
- a collection primarily related to research and the master’s programmes offered at the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences (acquisitions).
Consisting of curricula-related books and other resources (with several copies of each title), the learning and resource centre collection is not for loan.
The research collection consists of books that are for loan, as well as journals and reference and bibliographical works that you can only use in the library. A large part of the collection is available in electronic form (eLibrary). Less current literature (old editions of books, journal issues, etc.) is available in the closed stacks and can be requested at the document supply desk.
The collection reflects the faculty’s research, clustered around various themes.
- Politics and Culture in Europe, including European Governance
- Europe and the World
- Science, Technology and Society
- Science and Culture
- Cultures of Innovation
- Cultural Policy
- Arts and Heritage
- Policy, Management and Culture
- Media Culture
- Digital Culture
Finally, the library houses several special collections (the cultural heritage collections) relevant to the faculty’s education and research. The most important of these is the Jesuit collection, which is composed of a broad range of sources for the humanities.
