Collections in learning and resource centres

Books

The collection that is available in the learning and resource centre, is composed by the faculty tutors. For each block, a tutor specifies the books that must be available in the learning and resource centre. The tutor screens the titles for relevance and up-to-dateness every year. Students may submit to their tutor any suggestions for books to be ordered.

In principle, several titles will be available on each topic, and there will be several copies of each title. These books cannot be lent, and are therefore always available.

Apart from books, the collections also include audiovisual media, CAL programmes, and - in Randwyck - anatomy models.

Multimedia

Over the past few years, learning materials have increasingly become available in a digital form. These include blockbooks and readers.

An overview of doctoral theses of the faculties is accessible from the library homepage
(eLibrary > Catalogues > Catalogue UM Theses / Scripties).

The AV materials (video tapes and DVDs) can be viewed or played in special AV units, either individually or in groups.

Both libraries have multimedia labs for students. You can play multimedia files here (e.g. images, audio/video files) and adapt/save them for your own use (e.g. essays, theses, portfolios and other assignments). You can also use the Surf ‘virtual cutting machine’, to make your own selection from a large number of streamed videotapes, and link them in your paper.
