Cooperation with other libraries
National
Dutch university libraries and the National Library of the Netherlands (Koninklijke Bibliotheek, KB) cooperate within a partnership known as the UKB. The UKB plays an important role in the joint acquisition of digital information sources and in the interlibrary loan system. Moreover, via the UKB, the Maastricht University Library maintains close contact with the Flemish Research Library Council (VOWB) and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Universitätsbibliotheken Nordrhein-Westfalen (work group for university libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia).
Regional
In South Limburg, the library works closely with the Maastricht City Library at Centre Céramique, and the libraries of the Jan van Eyck Academy; the Sociaal Historisch Centrum voor Limburg (Limburg social history centre); Zuyd University; the Mondriaan care group; the Fontys Hogescholen in Sittard, Roermond and Venlo; the European Institute of Public Administration; and the Province of Limburg. This regional cooperation goes by the name of Limburg Higher Education Infostructure (Infostructuur Hoger Onderwijs Limburg, or IHOL). The library also has a cooperation agreement with the Open University of the Netherlands.
International
The library collaborates with partners abroad, such as the Hasselt University Library (Belgium) in the context of service provision for the transnationale Universiteit Limburg (tUL) [Dutch]. The library is also a Nereus Network partner, and in this capacity works closely with the libraries of internationally renowned economic institutes, including the London School of Economics, the University of Oxford (UK), the Université Paris-Dauphine (France), Monash University (Australia) and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain). Nereus focuses on the development of innovative services for researchers; a successful venture is the Economist Online website, which provides open access to published academic papers. Active knowledge transfer also takes place through the regular Nereus workshops.
The library is a member of LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche). LIBER represents and promotes the interests of research libraries.
Library services for the transnationale universiteit Limburg (tuL)
As a tuL student or employee you have two university libraries at your service, each with its own tradition and history. This means the services and access to various electronic sources are different at the two institutions.
Collections and services
The catalogues of both libraries are easily accessible via their homepages. Hasselt University’s library catalogue is a part of Anet (a partnership including the University of Antwerp and Hogeschool Antwerp). There is a common book catalogue (Zebra) and journal catalogue (Antilope). Maastricht University’s library catalogue contains the details of its own collection and also participates in a national catalogue.
The use of various electronic sources (catalogues, bibliographical databases, e-journals) is limited to the Diepenbeek and Maastricht campuses because of licensing conditions.
You can borrow or consult resources from both libraries using a library card. It is also possible to request literature that is not presently on site via the interlibrary loan system.
Homepages
You can find the most up-to-date information on the homepages of both university libraries. Along with access to the catalogues, they provide information about the borrowing conditions, interlibrary loans and opening times, and you can ask questions via their online forms.
