Friends scholarship - Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
The Friends of Maastricht University (UM) is an initiative of the University Fund Limburg/SWOL. The University Fund seeks private funding to allow talented international students to follow master’s programs at Maastricht University. Gifts and donations are brought together in the Friends Scholarship.
This scholarship provides an opportunity to experience the Problem-Based Learning educational model at UM, but also gives the scholarship recipient the opportunity to learn from other cultures by becoming a part of UM’s international academic community.
The supporters of this Friends Scholarship are the following companies: SATIJNplus Architects, Mediview, Delfin and Van der Valk Hotel Maastricht.
For 2012-2013 the Friends Scholarship will focus on the Master Globalisation and Development Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. This is a one-year master program.
Who is eligible?
The Friends Scholarship offers subsidies for young talented students participating in the Master Globalization and Development Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University starting in September 2012. Note: candidates must meet all the requirements of the application procedure. Applicants should hold a passport from an emerging country in South America, Africa or Asia.
Scholarship amount
The scholarship is meant to be a contribution in the tuition fee of the master's program at UM with a maximum of 12 months. The period of the scholarship starts and ends at the dates mentioned in the award letter.

Application and selection
Please download the application form of the Friends scholarship of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The completed applications must be sent by e-mail before 1 March 2012 to Mrs Regout and Ms. Wolters.
The Faculty will review and rank the application requests. The Maastricht University Scholarship Committee together with The University Fund Limburg/SWOL will make the final decision. Applicants will be informed about the selection outcome in April.
For the scholarship assessment, the Scholarship Committee takes all elements of the application into account, including the level of previous study program, academic excellence, motivation, status of the home institution, the connection with the prior study program, future career plans and the references.
