Faculty study support
Student advisors are usually the first to approach within the faculty. They are familiar with the structure and possibilities of the education programme, faculty organisation and courses.
Student advisors can be regarded as coaches for students taking decisions in the fields of study planning and study choices. Students who are unable to continue their studies or experience delays may turn to the student advisor for personal advice and guidance.
Student advisors are the persons to approach with questions to which the Faculty Study Guide or faculty information meetings provide no answers. Such questions may include taking courses at a different university, or a second study, if there is sufficient time, or a choice of graduation programme, selection of subjects, etc. Student advisors are able to determine together with a student whether it is possible or wise to take certain decisions.
Student advisors are also the persons to turn to when studies are not progressing as planned, for example if great efforts are made but without the proper results, or if circumstances prevent one from studying. Or the amount of material may be too much and it may not be clear how to handle it.
But also in the case of special circumstances affecting one’s studies, for example an illness or family circumstances, student advisors may be able to help and set up a customised study plan. In such cases, immediate contact with the student advisor is also of great importance in order to prepare for a possible request to the Regulation Profileringsfonds Maastricht University.
One of the conditions of this regulation is that you must report any special circumstances that may cause study delay, within two months after its onset to your student advisor or a student dean.
Student advisors can also invite students if their study progress data show that their results during the academic year are far below the requirements or to give a Binding Study Advice. Whether such is done depends on agreements made within the faculty: in general, the emphasis here will be on first-year students.
Some student advisors only work by appointment, while others have an open visiting hour or can be consulted by telephone. For more information, consult the Faculty Study Guide or use the telephone number below.
