Important to know if you're starting a master's in 2012!
The law bill 'Make Way for Talent' was adopted on 5 July of this year. The legislation lays out a 'clear cut' distinction between bachelor's and master's phases of education, meaning that you may only begin a master's programme if you have successfully completed a bachelor's programme. The Secretary of State wishes to make bachelor's and master's studies 'free-standing', self-contained programmes, so that after completing bachelor's training there is an obvious, conscious choice by graduates to pursue further training.
The 'clear cut' distinction applies to all students preparing to begin a master's programme on or after 1 September, 2012. Thus if you wish to begin a master's programme during the academic year 2012/13, you must prove by 1 September 2012 that you have successfully graduated from a bachelor's programme. This condition may only be waived in exceptional cases.
Please note: For the master's programmes of the Faculty of Law, the 'clear cut' distinction takes effect starting 1 February 2012. Please check the programme of your choice for more information.
