About the PhD programmes

PhD Researchers participate in a four year doctoral programme consisting of writing the thesis itself and of legal education and training of research methods by the inter-university  research school Ius Commune or the School of Human Rights Research. Practical training, such as legal English writing skills, is provided by the Graduate School itself. In addition PhD fellows are invited to participate in conferences, round table discussions, brown bag lunches and other activities of the Faculty Research Institutes and to subscribe individually under the Maastricht University course offer. PhD Researchers are also provided the opportunity to follow education abroad.

Upon request courses are open for non-resident researchers and visiting scholars. Please contact Maastricht Graduate School of Law.

PhD research projects are incorporated in faculty research groups, which are all part of one of the research programmes of inter-university research schools the Ius Commune Research School or the School of Human Rights Research.  Faculty PhD Researchers also take advantage of the academic setting within the faculty Institutes, such as the Maastricht Centre for Human Rights, METRO, IGIR, the Montesquieu Institute, the Maastricht Forensic Institute and ICGI: Institute for Corporate Law, Governance and Innovation Policies.

The Graduate School’s portfolio of research projects has been growing progressively and now hosts almost 60 internal PhD Researchers.
