Embedding in the Faculty of Law
The Maastricht Graduate School of Law is fully embedded in the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University. The Faculty can be characterised as truly international in focus, students and staff. First in both education and research considerable attention is devoted to European and international law and comparative law. In addition, over one third of its students come from abroad representing more than 60 nationalities. Its staff is composed of many different nationalities with over 30% of the academic staff and over 60% of the PhD candidates being foreign. Furthermore, foreign guest lecturers are regularly invited to come and speak in conferences and research seminars in Maastricht, thus adding to the international profile of the Law Faculty. Finally, the international character of the Faculty is enshrined in its cooperation with universities all over the world.
In line with its commitment to high-quality research and in order to facilitate both internationally leading academics and young scholars in pursuing high quality academic work, quite recently, the Faculty has created a number of research institutes and centres. The institutes provide an international and inspiring academic environment to both senior and junior (PhD) researchers. The institutes carry out a host of activities by organising academic conferences and workshops, research seminars as well as guest lectures.
